Cha Cha Cha Dancing
The late '40's and early '50s saw an explosion of latin dance music in the United States. This exciting new music from Cuba and Puerto Rico was irresistible to a country celebrating the end of a world war. At the center of this new craze was the fast paced and extremely syncopated Mambo. Latin bandleaders quickly became sensitive to the difficulty their new american fans were experiencing when first attempting to dance to this inviting new music. They slowed the tempo slightly and put the syncoptations at more regular intervals. The result was at first called triple mambo then became known as the Cha-cha. Cha-cha was a huge hit and even found it's way into the early rock-n-roll of the '50s.
Today, Cha-cha is still extremely popular and can be danced to pop, funk, R&B and hip-hop as well as the more authentic latin tunes. A good Cha-cha dancer is fun to watch and is always in demand as a partner.
